CoolSculpting Q & A

What is CoolSculpting?

CoolSculpting is an FDA-cleared fat-freezing technology. It reduces stubborn fat without surgery or other invasive measures.

The procedure is based on the science of cryolipolysis. During a session, precisely controlled cooling is delivered to gently and effectively target fat cells beneath your skin. These fat cells then freeze and die, so your body can naturally eliminate them through its natural waste-removal systems.

What areas can be treated with CoolSculpting?

CoolSculpting is effective on many of those stubborn areas that just won’t shrink, even with precise dieting and exercise strategies. These include:

  • Chin or the submental (below the chin) area
  • Underneath the buttocks (banana roll)
  • Flanks (love  handles)
  • Bra and back fat
  • Abdomen
  • Upper arm

Dr. Bansal consults with you to evaluate your aesthetic goals and customize a CoolSculpting treatment plan to help you achieve them.

CoolSculpting is not for comprehensive weight loss. You should be close to a healthy weight to benefit from the procedure.

What should I expect during a CoolSculpting procedure?

During your 35- to 75-minute procedure, CoolSculpting, Dr. Bansal or a member of the team applies a gel pad and applicator to the areas to be treated. The CoolSculpting applicator sends controlled cooling to the target area while you relax and read or watch a movie.

You could feel some pulling, mild pinching, intense cold, stinging and cramping during treatment. Most patients tolerate the treatment well and find these sensations fade after a while as the treatment areas numb.

Does CoolSculpting have side effects?

You might have temporary redness, swelling, bruising, or tenderness following CoolSculpting treatment. If you have your chin treated, you might experience the sensation of fullness in the back of the throat. These symptoms all resolve within a few days or weeks.

You don’t have to take any downtime following CoolSculpting treatments. You can go back to work or other daily activities following a session.

When will I see results from CoolSculpting treatments?

You could notice changes in the treated areas as soon as three weeks following a CoolSculpting session. Optimal results appear in about eight weeks and your body continues to flush out destroyed fat cells for four to six months following treatment.
