Julia Liu completed her Physician Assistant training at Anne Arundel Community College and obtained her Master’s Degree in Medical Science at St. Francis University, with a GPA of 4.0 in 2015.
Prior to becoming a certified PA, Julia Liu received an M.D. and Ph.D. in China and completed a 3-year residency program in Dermatology at the Xi'an Jiaotong University School of Medicine. She practiced Dermatology in China for 4 years. After relocating to the US with her family, Julia completed postdoctoral fellowships at the University of Pennsylvania and University of Maryland School of Medicine where she published papers involving melanoma and allergic contact dermatitis. One of her publications is in the prestigious journal “Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences” with Julia Liu as the first author. Although Julia has earned two doctoral degrees abroad, in order to practice as a physician in this country she would be required to repeat at least 4 years of residency training. She therefore elected instead to complete PA training in the US, allowing her to practice dermatology as a PA.
Julia Liu practices 3+ years of dermatology in Maryland before she joins our practice in 2019. Her broad experience in medicine, both as a researcher and a clinician, provides her the ability to give excellence in the demanding field of dermatology. She provides a wide spectrum of dermatology services and treating both children and adults of all skin types. She has expertise in early detecting of skin cancers. In the past 3 years’ practice, she found 46 cases of melanoma, among which 24 cases are melanoma in situ (stage 0, the earliest stage of melanoma). She surgically treated many early stage melanomas which could have potentially been life threatening.
